Store in Cool and Dry Place

A warm and humid environment will degrade the tire’s rubber faster, so keep them in a cool and dry environment for storage. Ideally, the temperature should be consistent between 50°F and 80°F, and relative humidity should remain below 75 percent. Avoid storing the tires in direct sunlight, as UV exposure can lead to premature aging of the rubber compounds.

Elevate Them Off the Ground

Keeping tires off the ground while in storage is recommended. Elevating the tires places less pressure on them and will decrease the risk of them being contaminated by dirt, oils, or grease from the ground. Use a pallet or a tire rack to improve air circulation and prevent moisture accumulation that can lead to deterioration.

Protect Tires From Ozone

Tire rubber breaks down more quickly when exposed to ozone, which is found in the atmosphere and emitted by various electrical appliances. Store your tires away from furnaces, air compressors, or other ozone-producing equipment.

Stack or Hang Tires Properly

When storing several tires, either stack them on their sides or hang them on a vertical peg. Air-filled tires should be stacked no more than four high, while non-mounted tires can be hung from a vertical peg. Store tires mounted on rims upright or hang them from wall-mounted hooks.
