Essential Tire and Wheel Care Tips for Optimal Performance
Maintenance |At RNR Tire Express, we’re committed to helping you get the most out of your Tires and Wheels. Proper care not only ensures optimal performance but also extends the life of your investment. Here are some crucial tips to maintain your Tires and Wheels, ensuring they keep you safe on the road.
Important Wheel Maintenance Tips:
- Re-torque New Lugs and Locks: After the initial installation, it’s essential to re-torque new lugs and locks between 25 and 100 miles and again after one week to ensure they are fitted securely.
- Avoid Automatic Car Washes: The acids in some car washes can damage the finish on your wheels and cause pitting. It’s best to avoid these and opt for manual washing.
- Regular Cleaning:
- For chrome, painted, and clear-coated wheels: Wash with a mild car wash product at least every two weeks. Allow wheels to cool before cleaning and wax with regular car wax.
- For polished wheels: These require polishing at least once per month with a recommended name brand product such as Mother’s®, Wenol®, or Extreme®.
Important Tire Maintenance Tips:
- Regular Pressure Checks: Check tire pressure at least once a week. Squealing usually indicates incorrect pressure, which can affect performance and increase wear.
- Rotate and Balance: Ensure to rotate and balance your tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles to distribute wear evenly.
- Check Alignment: Have your vehicle’s alignment checked every 10,000 miles or at least once per year. Misalignment can cause uneven wear and other driving issues.
- Avoid Driving on a Flat: Do not drive on a flat tire or use Fix-A-Flat® type products, as these can damage the wheels and may void your tire/wheel warranty.
Manufacturer Warranty:
- Wheels: Most wheels come with a 1-year warranty covering chrome peeling. Note that pitting due to improper care is not covered.
- Tires: Warranties typically cover defects like sidewall separation under normal tread wear and are prorated based on remaining tread wear. They do not cover road hazards or wear due to alignment or vehicle issues.
